Reading Festival has announced a full review of its stages, and the BBC Introducing stage has been axed.
The stage had played host to acts like Florence and the Machine over the years, it’s aim to help support and break new bands. If you’re wondering how important such a stage was, someone’s worked out 70% of this year’s Reading lineup had worked with BBC Introducing.
Instead Reading have promised a “much wider pool of emerging talent”, chiefly on the Canopy stage.
The organisers explained that the BBC chose the acts and now the festival will be able to pick the upcomers themselves. This seems to be a criticism of the BBC rather than a move away from young bands.
