In the famous for fifteen seconds modern pop world, Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s ‘Rein Me In’ was released a thousand years ago, but it’s now hit the top of the pop charts.
Not only is this Fender’s first number one single, but being in the top 40 for a staggering 35 weeks makes it the longest single to stay in the top forty before reaching number one ever.
The previous record was Ed Sheeran’s Thinking Out Loud which needed 19 weeks to peak in 2014.
Asked why this has happened, Fender told the Beeb “I guess it’s the internet, it travelled online and people come to it later, which is wonderful really because it’s the music that’s doing the talking.”
Yes, the internet.
