Texas Heritage Auctions put together an event that’s either going to fascinate you or repel you, and the former might want to rush to the attic: an auction of 260 sealed VHS tapes, mostly first editions of early VHS movies.
You might wonder what the attraction of something that’s surely dusted is, but a sealed VHS of Back To The Future which once belonged to one of the stars (err, not Michael J Fox) sold for $75,000. It came with a note from the actor Biff Tannen / Thomas Wilson:
“This is a VHS tape of the first release of Back To The Future, sent to me by the studio at that time. Since I knew that the VHS platform would be around forever, I saved it for later and now I can’t find a VCR. Oh well. Enjoy!”
Those tapes sold all together for more than half a million dollars.
To the attic!
