Musicians are being badly affected by Coronovirus because they can’t go out and gig anymore, a vital revenue source now people seem to stream more than buy. Now Spotify, host of many of those streams, have responded to calls for help by unveiling a triple approach to getting money to artists.
Spotify have teamed with MusiCares, PRS Foundation, and Help Musicians, and will donate large sums to each. Then there will be the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief system which users can donate to, and through which Spotify will match the first $10 million, with this money also going to the abode groups. Then Spotify will allow artists to link fundraising systems of their own.
