Is there any other Author to get as many adaptations of their work? Stephen King seems to have every book, short story, novella and other pieces of work adapted for film and tv. With at least 79 adaptations of his work being available.

It was announced recently that a tv adaptation of his 2022 book, Fairytale will be made by A24.

The book follows Charlie Reade as he struggles with doubt over his father staying sober. After a chance encounter with an elderly neighbour, Howard Bowditch, who has been a recluse… I won’t spoil the book but there is a big revelation about Howard which then leads Charlie into a world of fantasy, and danger. In order to save Mr Bowditch’s dog, Radar, he travels into this other world.

This has the potential to be a show full of drama, fantasy, and horror.
There’s chapters in the later half of the book which I am looking forward to seeing come to life on the screen.

In terms of casting, there’s a few names I think woukd be perfect for the roles. I can’t say for the others but I have two suggestions for Howard Bowditch and Charlie Reade.

Mr Bowditch, when reading the book, give me David Bradley vibes. I’m not sure if he can do an American accent but I think he would be able to pull off the isolated, elderly man character.

Charlie Reade as the good-hearted teenager with family issues could be played by Mason Thames. His role in The Black Phone could have similar characteristics to Charlie Reade and he is in the right age range for this.

The book is a solid 600 pages and has plenty of action including plenty of build up and development for all the characters, the fairy tale world, a journey through the mystic city, dungeons, an escape, and more.

Stay tuned for a release in 2027.
