Stereophonic recently won five Tony awards for its musical depiction of a fictional UK 70s band trying and arguing and warring and loving as they make an album. Now its being sued.
Ken Caillat was a sound engineer on Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, and he and writer Steven Stiefel wrote a book about the whole experience called Making Rumours. The pair allege that Stereophonics writers have nicked “the heart and soul of Making Rumours, and is substantially similar.”
They claim the show “presents a nearly identical story arc as Making Rumours” and presents itself “from the perspective of the engineers and producers” just like the book. They also say one engineer’s career in the musical mirrors Caillats.
We shall see.
