There’s been a legal battle recently between Sting and his bandmates in The Police over unpaid royalties and there seems to have been an attempt to settle.
Although Sting was credited as sole writer on most of their biggest songs, the other two claimed there’d been an oral agreement – later written down – to share 15% of the publishing income. While that had been happening, the agreements were made in an era before streaming and downloads and the pair said they should be getting their share of those.
According to a London High Court filing, Sting has paid the pair over $800,000 since they began their legal action. However, this hasn’t settled the case as their lawyer claims the restitution could approach $8 million.
We’ll keep you updated.
