Sting sued by the Police… the other police

Where there’s a hit there’s a writ, and today’s person being sued for their musical money makings is Sting.

He was in The Police, and unfortunately for Sting the other members think he’s taken more than he should of the income.

Guitarist Andy Summers and drummer Stewart Copeland say although they did not have writing credits on songs like Rozanne, they had an oral agreement later turned into writing that to share income… 15% of what a song made would go to the uncredited ones.

They think a million and a half is owing. Sting’s lawyers say this is an “illegitimate” claim and there was no oral agreement.

Now you might be wondering, if this agreement was turned into writing, how there’s an argument. Currently the deal pays out for music sold as physical media and streaming on demand. They are not getting money from radio / public play and streaming.

As streaming seems to be the future, you can see the problem.
