The Last Dinner Party had to cancel their show at the Engine Shed in Lincoln on Saturday at the last minute due to illness, but no one’s complaining about that. No, people are complaining about the way the venue’s security treated male fans.
Male attendees reported being pulled to one side and treated to vastly more security issues that anyone else, from having to answer questions about the band to prove they were ‘real fans’ to be let in, to having their shoes and socks searched. There is a difference between creating a safe environment for everyone and having to pass an entrance exam.
Lest you think this is a few people complaining, the venue have admitted making a last minute policy change: “Although the policy was changed with the right intentions, this change resulted in the unacceptable treatment of some guests and The Engine Shed would like to fully apologise”.
The band themselves released a statement: “Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend our shows… We are appalled and disappointed that anyone was made to feel otherwise… We want to make it very clear that those policies were created and enforced by the venue at their own discretion and were not made in consultation with us.”
