Indie pop quartet The Lottery Winners are trying to get their second number one album and they’re neck and neck with Deacon Blue for that top slot.

As of today only 2000 sales separate Winners’ fourth album KOKO (Keep On Keeping On) from the Blues.

Lottery Winners last LP went to number one in 2023 with ART, aka Anxiety Replacement Therapy. It was a time of mixed emotions: “Getting a No 1 record was an amazing feeling of euphoria, but the comedown was almost immediate,” singer Thom Rylance said. “I had an existential crisis, thinking: ‘Is this the best thing we’re ever going to do? How do we back this up?’ It was an exciting time, but a real anxiety crept in.”

For their fourth album they were determined to keep progressing. “It was important not to just make ART 2,” Thom explained, “We’ve been through a lot since ART came out, and we had to write about how we were feeling. The only way people will connect with your music is if you mean it.”

They enlisted some musical friends, as KOKO features collaborations with Shed Seven, Frank Turner, Chad Kroeger and Reverand and the Makers, but it’s their lyrics which entrance fans. Thom has always vocalised the mental health struggles so many people suffer, forging a strong bond with fans. That’s not the only bond. “Struggling is a really important song for us,” Thom noted. “The bond we’ve got is unbreakable. No matter what, we’re there for each other. We’ve all been knocked in the same way, but we’ve all celebrated in the same way too.”

However, they’re also determined to make people dance and have been invited to support acts as diverse as Rick Astley, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Nickelback.

Number one is in sight, but they need your support.
