Following the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the rumour mill went into overdrive over other Nintendo games which could be movies, and the lead candidate was Legend of Zelda.

The RPG series has been going to years, produces hit after hit, and it’s 2023 iteration is brilliant and popular, so why not. Some ‘sources’ even said a deal was close.

However, the CEO of Illumination, Chris Meledandri, has said otherwise. He told The Wrap:

“I don’t know where that came from…I mean I can understand how people would surmise all sorts of things because obviously, we’ve had a great experience working together… My relationship with Nintendo now includes being on their board of directors, so I understand how people can surmise these things… But in terms of the specifics, that was just something that I’ve been hearing lots of rumours. This is just about what’s next between Nintendo and Illumination.”

Yeah, well let’s give it six months and revisit, shall we?
