Until today we had no idea there’s an annual European Tree of the Year award, a bit like Shed of the Year but before anyone got their hands on the winner.
Even more attention grabbing: Polish trees have won it for four straight years.
This year’s winner has the marvellous name of The Heart of the Dalkowskie Hills, something deserving of any horror novel, and is a three hundred ish year old Beech tree.
There’s some brilliant folklore: toss peanuts into a hole into the tree and your wishes might come true.
The Heart gained 147,553 votes, with the runner up getting only 43,427.
