As the world tries to grapple with a future amidst Covid, it’s important to report on the bad things as well as the good. So, step forward Verknipt Festival, where things have not gone well.

The outdoor festival had twenty thousand attendees and was dubbed covid safe: you need to be double jabbed or provide a negative test to get in. Unfortunately, something went wrong and over a thousand attendees have now got Covid.

It’s unclear how much the festival contributed, as Lennart van Trigt, of the Utrecht health board, told Pitchfork, “We cannot say that all these people were infected at the festival itself… It could also be possible that they’ve been infected while travelling to the festival or in the evening before going to the festival or having an after-party.”

But that’s still all connected to the festival experience. Furthermore, people were allowed in with tests up to 40 hours previously. The government now uses a 24 hour period.
