It’s widely known that during the early stages of filming for Elf, star Will Ferrell wondered if he’d made a huge mistake and his career was on the line. In the end, of course, Elf turned out to be a brilliant movie that’s a fixture of many a Christmas calendar.
But where there’s a hit, there’s a sequel… or so they tried. Ferrell’s been talking to Hollywood Reporter about how he was approached to star in Elf 2, and offered $29 million… but he turned it down because it wasn’t a good script.
“I would have had to promote the movie from an honest place, which would’ve been, like, ‘Oh no, it’s not good. I just couldn’t turn down that much money,’” he said to The Hollywood Reporter. “I thought, ‘Can I actually say those words? I don’t think I can, so I guess I can’t do the movie.’”
Respect is due.
