On You Know You Like It AlunaGeorge have gone back to the future, specifically, the future envisaged by late 90s/ early noughties sci fi RnB pioneers Timbaland, Darkchild, Missy Elliot and The Neptunes. The single jerks, slinks and lollops along, with the syncopated rhythms and oozing bass supplied by producer George Reid forming a carapace hard and shiny as a beetles back. Over this vocalist Aluna Francis sings in her distinctive baby voiced yelp- which may not be to everyone’s taste, but sits snugly with the track. It’s testimony to the pairs influences that You Know You Like It sounds utterly modern- as though the world is still catching up with the beat science Timbaland was concocting a decade ago. There’s a lot of hype resting on this young outfits shoulders, but on this showing they’ve justified it, making RnB a strange, and intriguing prospect once again.
