One of the stand out tracks from Coxon’s on-form A&E album, Ooh, Yeh Yeh has Graham laidback and cruising, situating himself somewhere between John Lennon’s dissaffected drawl and Beck’s stoner haze. Somewhere round the 2.30 mark Coxon unleashes the loudest guitar solo he’s ever played, a Harrier jet of distortion that’s warm and ear drum perforating in equal measures, and it all comes together beautifully. Seeing as the new Blur album is now probably off for good, this is as close as we’re going to get to new material from the band (Damon apparently too busy writing unlistenable mock Elizabethan opera’s) and too be honest, with songs this effortlessly cool, who’s complaining…?
