The best single release I’ve heard this week comes from Canadian’s Purity Ring– it’s got the same bitstrangled synthesizer heartbeat and chatroom robosex vocals as Crystal Castles, plus a bit of gnarling subbass that tips a wink to dubstep. Sounding like a glass computer shattering under the weight of a million hacked torrents, Belispeak is refreshingly forward looking, unapologetically alien, and a welcome hint to the lamestream of what pop is capable of when it remembers it’s supposed to be wilfull, sexy and transgressive.
