Whether you like the music of Lana Del Rey or not, you’ve got to respect the work rate. She’s constantly out material, and the latest is a single called A&W, or ‘American Whore.’ It’s very much a work of two parts, both good.

The first half is classic Lana. A tale of broken lives and the real American dream half whispered by Lana over a down beat, it’s got the myth making, the don’t shit a shit vulnerability and the sense she can’t really sing we’ve come to expect.

Then… the song morphs into a sort of ambient electro chant, which is simultaneously a perfect fit and the last thing we expected. Thanks to this sweet and sour, this salt and caramel, A&W becomes one of Lana’s best ever and something you can stick on repeat.
