Newly signed to Transgeressive offshoot ParadYse Records, childhood friends Marcus Pepperell and John Hamson Jr make up the woozy world of Thumpers. Cracking debut track Dancing’s Done is a satisfyingly English take on the Animal Collective sound. Amidst vocal hollers, marching drums, and whoops sourced from the depths of a fantasy forest, a John Squire-esque guitar shimmies, like a glistening ray of pop light. It’s surprising how few UK bands have produced a response the euphoric wonky folktronics the Americans produce so well, so it’s great to hear a duo not just taking the sound on, but taking it forward. Recommended.
