There’s loads to recommend about the new Wolf Gang single—the menacing dubbed out bassline, the swooning disco light guitars, the click clacking percussion and the complex yet never overly fussy arrangement all combine into an epic vaunting whole. In fact, I’d say it was a hands-down great single, if I could get over Mat McElligott’s delivery of the first two lines, where he settles on some sort of ‘tropical’ accent that makes him sound like he’s auditioning for a mildly racist Lilt advert. And it’s only for the first two lines … I just don’t get it. If anyone can suggest why he might do this I’m all ears. After these two lines, it’s all haunting anthemic falsetto from McElligott with the song building to a powerful, reverb laden, emotive climax. So, basically, a really strong song, with a kinda strange start. Don’t let me put you off.
